I'm still beaming from the all the fun had, friends made, learning begotten and fabulous time we all shared at the Madrona Fair Isle Workshop last weekend. Those lovely sweaters are the mindspring and handiwork of our awesome instructor, Janine Bajus.
This is the designer and teacher whose fearless approach inspired our class to form a new Rav group called, what else? Fearless Fair Islers :)
Just a portion of Janine's shetland stash:

Day 1: We learned about color inspiration and how to combine color effectively. (My speed swatch.)

Day 2: Charting motifs in combination with backround and foreground color.

Day 3: Janine covered sweater design and construction. (I was so in awe of the talent of my classmates. Some of our completed motif swatches--- mine's the wonky bird one.)

All that, and food, glorious food, three banquets a day! Organic and mostly vegetarian ... 'twas delicious.

Guest quarters:

"Diva" di Madrona:

Suzanne's spinning and weaving supplies and artifacts made for inspiring ambience:

A loom with a view:

More handspun eye candy:

And all sorts of fiber-love in between: Our classmate Susan sharing one of her lace FO's.

Some photo booth mug shots with Nancy and Marie, my spinning friends:

Shout out to my girl Steph from Hermosa, and Janine:

With Steph and our hostess Suzanne:

Our experienced co-hostess knew to park herself by the front door on the last day *sniff* of the workshop to bid us adieu.

Marie set up her tripod for a final group photo before our departure: (Diva, front and center)

My 'Little Birds' swatch marks the end of an incredibly rewarding weekend and the beginning of new possiblities... now if only the swatch could magically turn itself into a sweater. ;)

The colors on your speed swatch are beautiful! Thanks for posting all of the fun pictures! I am glad you had such a fun time! :)
I was going to say the same thing as Rebekah. I love the colors in your speed swatch. Very nice!
Beautiful place you stayed at! Glad you had such fun!
Wow! I'm so jealous! Thanks for sharing all that goodness.
That looks like a productive and inspiring weekend!
How fun! That's a technique that looks scarier than it is, but is still pretty scary to me.
It sounds like a wonderful weekend. Nice people, great wools, and more!
I love your swatches! What a lovely time you must have had!
What a wonderful weekend! I love your swatch and it seems like you learned a lot too. So jealous!
It looks like it was an amazing weekend! Nice place, nice work :)
I love the variety of swatches created. It's always fun to see what sort of goodies will emerge from a gathering of artists regardless of their medium.
Heaven!
love your little birds!!!! was so wonderful finally meeting you in person!!
Wow--that is an incredible lot of talent--looks like a swell time--how fortunate you got to partake!
Sounds like a wonderful weekend.
I agree, your speed swatch is such a nice mix of colours. You should turn it into a sweater!
Wow, Wow, Wow!
I much prefer your two pieces - I adore Fair Isle, but prefer it when it is traditional and simply designed...when it gets too fussy and obviously Celtic it isn't authentic. The same goes for the colours, which I think always are better when they are vegetable looking dyes rather than modern colours....yours are fab.
Years and years ago we went to Skye where there was the most heavenly sweater shop...at the time we were poor newly weds, and though I coveted the gorgeous cardigans and sweaters...the finances didn't stretch...and how I have regretted that ever since!
...Do you take orders?
What a wonderful workshop! I really wanted to take it but didn't have the time this year. Janine's sweaters are just gorgeous. I'm so impressed by everyone's swatches - just beautiful. Can't wait to see how your sweater turns out.
What an incredible weekend! Your photos (and swatches!) are beautiful. How sweet of the pup to block the door on the last day :)
Wow, it looks like a fantastic course, so inspiring! Thanks for sharing all those amazing photos!
Wowser, Terminally Jealous (1). I would love something like this and you all's swatches make me drool as do the sweaters. I am going to master the Shawl from Hell first, then it's on the Fair Isle..
Thanks for the comment on my blog about the Fawkes Socks.
You too can have a swift like mine, they are $50.00, no shipping from KnitPicks.com. It appears that the swift in the pics above is from the same manufacturer.
